Just to clarify

I'm not one to start petty fights on the internet
but something is really bugging me about a certain blog post and I feel the need to respond
I won't mention the post or the blogger
but I just need to clear up a few things

I think I've been pretty successful at my weight loss so far
but it definitely has NOT been easy

So here are a few things I thought I should clarify:

- okay so I am 22 years old and I do still live with my family BUT I cook my own food, I do chores and I don't have the luxury of spending all day working out
- Just because I don't have kids, doesn't mean I don't have responsibilities
- I was going to university full time and am working two jobs...hence I cannot spend every hour of the day focusing on my weight loss. Some days I can work 10 hour days because I'm stupid enough to work double shifts
- Okay so I'm 22, but I have never been a "healthy" weight. I was born obese and have always been morbidly obese. I don't know what it's like to be skinny.
- Like most of you ladies, I have definitely stuffed up my metabolism with yo-yo dieting. At age 10 I was seeing a dietitian and being forced to go to weight watchers and have tried just about every diet under the sun...AND I'M ONLY 22

last but not least,
I'm not sure when/why most of you gained weight. some may have been like me and have always been obese.but some "lucky" people may have had a great childhood being thin and healthy and may have only put on some weight in later life
I, however, have been having to deal with bullying and constant pressure to lose weight my whole childhood
It was hell for me
I was battling depression in my early teens
and have attempted suicide several times after it had gotten so bad at school that I just wanted to give up

So before you say that it's EASY for me to lose weight
Think about my circumstances first before you judge

I feel the same way! I'm 19 and it is NOT easy at all!

I don't think age really makes a difference. It may give our bodies an advantage but we still have lives even if we don't need to take care of a family!

Wow, It is not easy for any of us to lose weight, no matter our age. You are right, some of the Bandsters have spent their childhood and teen years thin and active but no one should be questioning you or how fast you lose weight. I am glad you did this at your young age, I wish I did, because you will have a long full life... but you have missed out on alot to get you to this point and no one can walk in your shoes. Everyone's metabolism is different. We all lose weight in different ways. It sounds like someone is too busy comparing themselves to your successes to work on their own. I am so sorry that you are struggling with this blogger but you should remember that there are always people who will be envious of what you've accomplished and wish you to fail so that they can gloat and feel superior... That is their problem, not yours. You are amazing and no one else should ever make you feel like you didn't work hard for it.

Wow, I'm so sorry that someone (furiously thinking and thinking if it could have been something that I said...) offended or hurt you! Losing weight is so not easy and NOT your fault! Someone wrote on my blog the other day, something along the lines of "saw how thin you were before, take note of how you got here" or something. Sort of offended me. So I guess I'm saying I feel you girl. I don't know what it's like to be this way my whole life- but I can say that I know how devastating obesity is in general. Feel better. :(

On another note, I think you should be proud of yourself for the steps you are and for keeping your chin up and fighting and fighting and not letting down. That's all we (anyone) can do. Be proud of yourself! You've made good progress! Sorry for the second comment, I just felt like adding more after I'd written the first one.

Be proud of everything you have achieved!

I am one of those people that gained weight later in life. I was your age when I started gaining weight. I am grateful that I was a healthy weight in high school. It must have been tough for you, high school girls (and boys) can be so nasty.

I am really excited for you, that you will spend your 20's at a healthy weight. I was overweight, and it sucked! i dont want my 30's to be the same, hence the band.

I'm sorry someone made you feel as if you needed to justify yourself.

I am so proud of you taking charge of yourself, you physical well being, & your education! I wish I had been more like you at 22!

Keep up the good work and don't let the judgers get you down!

Hey AlyceJo.

I'm sorry my post came out the way it did. The reasoning behind it was more for me to stop comparing my loss with your (or other younger people's) loss, as our circumstances really are different.

IN NO WAY did I intend to put down the effort you've put in. I've been, and still am, so proud of how far you've come - I've loved being with you from the start.

So I am honestly sorry that what I said hurt you. I didn't intend to and I wish I didn't.

The reminder was for myself that I shouldn't compare myself with ANYONE as we are all different.

Sorry AlyceJo. :(

it's okay sue
I think i just needed to put it out there anyway because you aren't the first to say that age has made it easier for me
alot of my friends keep telling me how easy it seems to me to lose it and that "they wish they were overweight so they could get lapband and wouldn't have to worry about those extra 10kg"...yes someone actually said that to me!

I'm glad you put it out there or I'd never have known. :(

Well whoever said that to you was a dickhead! LOL!

I really am sorry. I hope you understand that it came out the wrong way, and that I really do think you've done an INCREDIBLE job so far!

I suppose in the case of stigma that the young people might cop it more (I've heard a couple of younger people say this) because "you're young and haven't tried hard enough and should be able to do it yourself".

So yeah, we all have our problems with it, sometimes our ages and circumstance make the problems different, but not any less than each other.

I really am sorry, again. AND AGAIN. LOL! I have so much respect for you. xxxxxx

It's pretty rare that it's easy for someone to lose weight (at least out of all the people I know in real life and online). I wouldn't say that ever, because I know I have struggled with my weight since I was 21 (and now I'm 38, but just because my early life I wasn't overweight, doesn't mean I didn't have issues). And I would never judge someone even if I "know" about their weight issues, because I doubt everyone always puts out all their problems. Whatever it is, don't let a few comments of the self-righteous get you down, as you know your struggles and what you have done to get where you are. I know your struggle (at least as you've written it ) and it's inspirational; my concern with you is being overfilled and I just hope you get healthy and happy there (I don't know if you follow me but I've been overfilled for a while and am struggling with it, so I kind of know where you are there, but am happily jealous of you in your weight loss!). Wow, sorry I have rambled! I guess my point is, ignore the haters and keep going for yourself and those who care about you!

Alyce I totally get what you mean, some of my friends have also said to me 'gee I wish I could just get a lapband' like it's some easy way of losing weight. Yes the weight does come off, but they don't realise the pain, the discomfort, the tears, the frustration, that we have to deal with on a day to day basis! You have done amazingly and you are definitely an inspiration to me and many other people!
