Blow to the guts

Last night I worked with one of the new receptionists
We got talking and she mentioned that she had lap band done 3 years ago

She was great with telling me what to expect
She lost 40kgs in the first 6 months and warned me about saggy skin

I don't want to be 22 and having to still cover up because of saggy, deflated skin

I'm also a bit disheartened by the fact that when I told her my goal weight she said I shouldn't keep my hopes up!
I told her that to be in my healthy range I need to lose about 70kg
She cringed a bit and said that the doctors only expect people to lose 50-60% of their EXCESS weight. So that means it's expected I would only lose about 35kg

I know alot of you girls have had amazing success
What's your secret?
I need hope!

I don't know about that advice. Everyone is different. If she lost 40kg then how can she tell you that you will probably only lose 35kg. I think that if you put your mind to it then you can get to your goal weight. There are plent of people who have done it that are on these blogs and are inspirations. Don't let that get you down. Keep pushing and plugging. You can do it!!

Honestly it depends which doctor you're talking to, about the percentage of weight lost. I'm sure you'll be able to lose it all, it just might be harder when you're thinner (it will probably come off more slowly then). As for the loose skin, WEIGHTS! You need to fill up that space with some muscle (don't worry it's very difficult for women to get "big" as we don't have testosterone). Plus you're young, so your skin will still have a lot of elasticity. I would also suggest moisturizing every day in the areas that might get loose (belly, butt, thighs, upper arms). It can't hurt!

It depends WHO you are talking to. Getting the lapband isn't enough, you need to do some work, too. As long as you know that, then don't be discouraged, you can make it ALL THE WAY to goal! She probably didn't get that message and expected the lapband to do it all, which it won't.

Beleive in yourself!! All you have to know is that you wont be perfect everyday (or even everyweek sometimes) but you will always put your best foot forward and keep trying. Dont let anyone ever tell you what you will do, dont let them put you in a box, you are not - LapBand Patient: 30-50% of EXCESS body fat. You are Aycejo and you and you alone can decide how much weight you will lose. Your mind can be your greatest tool or your biggest downfall and that m'dear is your decision. :)You can Do it!!!

Excercise. Yep, that's the way.

Also, to avoid excess skin, and have the best chance of keeping it off, GO SLOW. The quicker you lose the worse it is for your skin, and the harder it is to keep up the new lifestyle.

Wow, that's not a very encouraging thing for that person to say that. Was she older than you? Its much harder to lose the weight the older you get. YOu are still young and with work and positivity you will lose all you want! V.

Thanks girls!
it's good to have people on your side :)
yes she was older than me...probably 25 or so years older me
I just want to prove everyone wrong!

I agree that those percentages probably come because a lot of people go into this thinking it's some sort of 'magic bullet'. If you're willing to make the changes needed to make your tool work WITH you, then there is no reason why you and your band shouldn't be able to take this all the way to goal! :D
